"ANNIE"

Annie was born at SLED in October of 1992, and lived her life there until her retirement in March of 2004. She is one-half Bloodhound (tracking skills) and one-half Redbone (for endurance). As Annie's career progressed through training and actual operational experience, her consistently successful performance led to her promotion to the prestigious position of Top Dog. She once successfully tracked a man over 25 miles in two days. Annie has well over 300 confirmed captures/rescues. It is estimated that this number is between 400-500 due to lack of computer records from the early years of her careeer.

With the onset of arthritis after more than ten years of field operations, Annie moved to more of a consultancy and training function. By sharing her experience and wisdom, a new generation of the SLED Tracking Team has been able to step-up and continue the traditions of selfless service to the State.

Annie is now spending her well-earned retirement years with a loving family in the Dutch Fork, and stays in constant contact with the local law enforcement agency. In her heart and spirit, she is ready should she ever receive the call to be reactivated by SLED.

Annie passed away on Veterans' Day 2006, as befits a true hero. She is missed by many around the state.

Note to Out-of-Staters: SLED is the State Law Enforcement Division.
